He shook his head confirming my question. â€Å"How do you know if we are the highest bidder?† â€Å"I don’t.† He pinched the bridge of his nose. The phone rang, â€Å"Hello,† Eloy said lifting his wrist to check his watch. â€Å"Be there is twenty.† He snapped the phone shut. â€Å"Head down down†¦MLK Blvd†¦Blair issued you your work equipment last night.† This wasn’t a question; it was a warning of the pending danger we were about to face. â€Å"I have my own protection.† His laugher filled the car. â€Å"Sassy, defiant and dangerous; how is it you are still single?† â€Å"My new found freedom is all thanks to you, Eloy.† His eyebrow drew together with concern. â€Å"Thank you.† I said making eye contact with him through the mirror. He needed to know that even if I didn’t care for the predicament I was in, that I was grateful for him pulling back the blinds and showing me what was really g oing on. I think that is why I felt obligated to see this agreement to the end. Trey got what he was after and it came as no price to me so why did I stay?
